Taking a position-by-position look at Tennessee vs. No. 8 Alabama, here’s what to watch for in Saturday’s showdown between the Volunteers and the Crimson Tide:

QUARTERBACK — Tennessee: Jacob Coker has been very accurate over the last two weeks for Alabama. The 6-5, 230-pound senior has completed 43 of 58 passes (74.1 percent) in wins over Arkansas and Texas A&M. On the season, he has connected on 122 of his 197 passes (61.9 percent) for 1,376 yards, 11 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Coker also has rushed 35 times for 103 yards and 2 TDs. But he is no Joshua Dobbs, who threw for 312 yards and rushed for 118 more in Tennessee’s last game, a 38-31 victory over Georgia on Oct. 10. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound junior from Alpharetta, Ga., is the only Volunteer with this type of 300/100 game and he’s accomplished it twice. Dobbs has completed 98 of 169 of his attempts (58 percent) for 1,101 yards, 8 TDs and 2 INTs. He’s also the top rushing QB in the SEC with 368 yards on 73 carries and 5 TDs, and he has caught a touchdown pass.

RUNNING BACKS — Alabama: If you don’t have Leonard Fournette or Nick Chubb, you might as well have Derrick Henry. In addition to scoring at least a touchdown in a school-record and FBS-leading 12 straight games, the 6-foot-3, 242-pound junior just shredded Texas A&M for a career-high 236 yards and 2 TDs on 32 carries last week. He is 2nd in the SEC in rushing yards (901), TDs (12) and rushing yards per game (128.7), all behind Fournette. In the other backfield, Jalen Hurd has been solid for Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound sophomore is 6th the conference in rushing yards per game (95.3) and is tied with Chubb for 5th in the league in rushing TDs (7). Fellow sophomore Alvin Kamara has been a solid complement to Hurd, with 45 carries for 255 yards and 3 TDs and has added 15 catches for 108 yards and 2 more scores. Kenyan Drake, Kamara’s Crimson Tide counterpart, has 15 catches for 178 yards and a score and has added 255 yards and a TD on 55 carries.

WIDE RECEIVERS, TIGHT END — Alabama: Freshman Calvin Ridley leads the Crimson Tide with 38 receptions for 437  yards and 3 TDs. Teammate Richard Mullaney also has 3 receiving TDs to go along with 23 catches for 217 yards. ArDarius Stewart has been a solid No. 2 wideout for Alabama, making 26 grabs for 243 yards and 2 scores while tight end O.J. Howard has caught 19 passes for 235 yards. Meanwhile, tight end Ethan Wolf leads the Vols in receiving yards (213) and has 2 receiving TDs to share the team lead with Preston Williams (7 catches, 158 yards) and Kamara. Sophomores Josh Malone (17 catches, 169 yards) and Josh Smith (11 catches, 144) each have 1 receiving touchdown.

OFFENSIVE LINE — Alabama: The Crimson Tide’s and Volunteers’ rushing stats are nearly identical: Alabama has rushed an SEC-leading 291 times for 1,391 yards and 15 touchdowns while Tennessee has 1,332 yards and 15 TDs on 290 attempts. The Vols are 2nd in the conference in rushing yards per game (222.0) while Bama is 4th (198.7). The Crimson Tide has allowed just 8 sacks over seven games while Tennessee has surrendered 11 through six, which gives Alabama a slight edge here.

DEFENSIVE LINE — Alabama: The Tide is 1st in the SEC and 3rd in the country in rushing defense, allowing just 70.9 yards a game. Bama is also 1st in the conference in rushing touchdowns allowed (3). Tennessee is 11th in the conference in rushing yards allowed per game (170.5) and next to last with just 9 sacks in six games. Meanwhile, Alabama leads the league in sacks (22) and is second in sacks per game (3.1). Jonathan Allen has a Tide-high 5 sacks, while teammate Da’Shawn Hand has added 2.5. A’Shawn Robinson (23 total tackles) leads Alabama with 7 QB hurries.

LINEBACKERS — Alabama: The Crimson Tide’s Reggie Ragland (59 total tackles, 3 QB hurries, 3 pass breakups, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles) and the Volunteers’ Jalen Reeves-Maybin (56 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 pass breakups, 1 QB hurry, 1 pass break-up, 1 forced fumble) have been two of the SEC’s top linebackers this season. Ragland has gotten help from juniors Reuben Foster (28 total tackles, 4 pass breakups) and Tim Williams (5.0 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks) among others. Tennessee’s Darrin Kirkland Jr. (22 total tackles, 2 sacks 2 QB hurries) has made an impact as a freshman.

SECONDARY — Alabama: The Tide is 1st in the SEC in opponent’s passer rating (97.3), opponent’s completion percentage (50.8) and interceptions (12). On the other hand, Tennessee is next to last in the conference in passing yards allowed per game (248.5) and tied for 11th in the league with just 4 INTs. Three of Alabama’s interceptions were pick-sixes against Texas A&M last week. Freshman Minkah Fitzpatrick, who burned the Aggies with a pick-six, now has two on the season, has added 24 total tackles, 6 pass breakups, 2 sacks and a punt return for a touchdown. Junior Eddie Jackson (24 total tackles, 2 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble) leads the SEC with 5 interceptions, including two pick-sixes and one coming last week against A&M.
