I know what you’re thinking– it’s way too early to be talking about 2017 NFL mock drafts.

But these are some pretty staggering numbers that deserve some monitoring over the upcoming months.

Pro Football Focus recently released a 2017 NFL mock draft, and 14 SEC players made the 32-player list.

For purposes of creating a draft order, PFF used the Vegas odds for winning the Super Bowl to determine which teams received which draft slots.

We’ll focus on the 14 SEC guys they projected as first-rounders, but in case you were wondering, Clemson QB Deshaun Watson is projected to go to the Cleveland Browns with the No. 1 pick.

The NFL teams in this mock really aren’t important since the draft order is almost sure to be inaccurate, so here’s a look at the SEC players involved and where they are slotted:

2. Myles Garrett, Texas A&M, OLB/DE
3. Derek Barnett, Tennessee, DE
5. Jalen Tabor, Florida, CB
6. Carl Lawson, Auburn, DE
10. Charles Harris, Missouri, DE
11. Leonard Fournette, LSU, RB
13. Jonathan Allen, Alabama, DE
14. Cam Robinson, Alabama, OT
16. Deatrich Wise Jr., Arkansas, DE
21. Nick Chubb, Georgia, RB
24. Cam Sutton, Tennessee, CB
26. Eddie Jackson, Alabama, S
29. Tim Williams, Alabama, OLB
32. O.J. Howard, Alabama, TE

Some things to chew on:

  • In a modern NFL that has devalued running backs as draftable commodities, the SEC has two slated in the first round. That’s saying something.
  • Take a look at all of the defensive end on that list. It makes you excited to watch all these guys get after the quarterback this fall.
  • There are five Crimson Tide players projected in the first round. That many were believed to be five potential Alabama first rounders in 2016, but only one ended up going there.
  • Do you really think 10 teams will take a pass on the chance to draft Leonard Fournette? I don’t.
  • There are no QBs or WRs on this list, and if you combine that with all the DEs, we could be in for another year of struggling SEC passing games.
