The recent Rebel Rags lawsuit naming Dan Mullen and Scott Stricklin as co-conspirators to bring down Ole Miss football is quite the interesting read.

Written like an Ole Miss message board post, the lawsuit alleges the former Mississippi State athletic leadership joined together in a master plan to destroy their rivals to the north. The official complaint from Rebel Rags names not only previously named Lindsey Miller (Laremy Tunsil’s former stepfather), current Mississippi State football players Leo Lewis and Kobe Jones, but adds NCAA investigator Mike Sheridan, the NCAA itself, Mullen, Stricklin and 11 John Does.

Here’s the claim Rebel Rags has against Mullen:

Defendant Dan Mullen, was a resident of the State of Mississippi at the time of the actions complained of which were not committed by him within the course and scope of his employment, but were motivated by his malice and hatred for The University of Mississippi and its then coach, Hugh Freeze. He committed acts to aid and abet libel, slander, and defamation, all as a co-conspirator with other Defendants.

According to Bruce Feldman of Sports Illustrated, Rebel Rags’ attorney Charlie Merkel believes they can prove these claims thanks to the testimony given to the NCAA by the Mississippi State players.

“We’ve got pretty good proof that both Mullen and Stricklin were involved in [directing] both Jones’s and Lewis’s accounts,” Merkel said. “It’s in the transcripts.”

As a result of the NCAA’s findings, Rebel Rags and owner Terry Warren have been disassociated from the Ole Miss football program until Dec. 1, 2020. That date represents the end of the probation handed down by the NCAA to the Ole Miss football program.

Stricklin’s attorney Charlie Winfield issued a response to the claims, according to Thomas Goldkamp of GatorBait.net/247Sports:

“Simply put, the claims against Mr. Stricklin are wholly devoid of merit, and there is simply no good faith basis in either law or fact for Mr. Stricklin to have been made a party to such a case. We intend to vigorously oppose these claims.”

Would the former Mississippi State athletic leadership really risk their professional careers to nail Ole Miss and Hugh Freeze? That’s what Rebel Rags would have you believe. While the claim seems dubious, anything is possible. We’ll have to wait and see what, if anything, comes of this lawsuit in the weeks and months to come.
