On Saturday, it was reported that Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland are officially out of ESPN’s Monday Night Football booth. Initial reporting by Richard Deitsch of The Athletic mentioned that both broadcasters would remain with the World Wide Leader. Now, a New York Post report is offering more information on their futures.

According to The Post’s Andrew Marchand, Tessitore is expected to move back to ESPN’s college football coverage. Marchand notes that Tess could essentially swap spots with Steve Levy, who is a reported candidate for a promotion to the MNF booth. Even if Tessitore doesn’t directly switch places with Levy, Marchand writes, “Tessitore is expected to land back there in some capacity, according to sources, with the possibility of doing a semifinal game, though ESPN already has [Chris] Fowler and Sean McDonough for those roles.”

Tessitore would be a familiar face and voice for college football fans. Prior to MNF, Tessitore was best known for calling ESPN Saturday Night primetime and select ABC regular-season games, paired with Todd Blackledge. Tessitore also called the College Football Playoff semifinals in 2016 (Peach Bowl: Washington vs. Alabama) and 2017 (Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Clemson). He was also the primary studio host for ESPN’s daily “College Football Live” for two years.

SEC fans are particularly familiar with Tessitore. His ties to the conference run deep as he was the first host of “SEC Nation.” In 2011, Tessitore executive produced the ESPN film “Roll Tide, War Eagle.” In 2012 he was a producer for ESPN’s “30 for 30” film “You Don’t Know Bo” about Tigers legend Bo Jackson.

Per The Post report, McFarland is expected to continue to cover the NFL in a prominent studio role.
