SEC announces Week 10 Players of the Week
Yet again this week, Mac Jones showcased why he should be considered for the Heisman Trophy.
Jones passed for 302 yards and five touchdowns while leading Alabama to a 42-13 win over Auburn on Saturday. That earned him co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, which he shared with Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral, who passed for 385 yards and two touchdowns in the Rebels’ 31-24 win over Mississippi State.
Jones’ five touchdown passes were a career high and tied an Iron Bowl record. He’s also now had six games this season in which he’s thrown for more than 290 yards.
Corral’s 385 passing yards were the most by an Ole Miss quarterback in Egg Bowl history. It was his sixth 300-yard game of the season, and he led a late touchdown drive in the final minutes to lead the Rebels to victory.
Texas A&M’s defense was recognized this week, as linebacker Buddy Johnson earned Defensive Player of the week and DeMarvin Leal earned Defensive Lineman of the Week. Johnson had nine tackles and an interception in the Aggies’ 20-7 win over LSU, while Leal had seven tackles.
Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller, who became the first woman to play in a Power Five game, earned co-Special Teams Player of the Week for the history she made, sharing the honor with Florida punt returner Kadarius Toney, who had a 50-yard punt return touchdown in the Gators’ 34-10 win over Kentucky.
Here are all the players who received honors this week:
Offense: Mac Jones, QB, Alabama/Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss
Defense: Buddy Johnson, LB, Texas A&M
Special Teams: Kadarius Toney, PR, Florida/Sarah Fuller, K, Vanderbilt
Freshman: Connor Bazelak, QB, Missouri
Offensive Line: Ben Cleveland, OG, Georgia
Defensive Line: DeMarvin Leal, DL, Texas A&M

No offense to Sarah, but squib kicking a football 30 yards shouldn’t make you a player of the week. The fact she gave a halftime speech and not any players/coach seems a little odd as well. I’m sure some other SEC special teams player actually should have won this award this week.
True. The SEC just trivialized the award.
Totally agree. She took this award from some other deserving player.
She didn’t take the award from anyone. She shouldn’t be blamed for someone else turning the award into another meaningless award like was done with the Nobel Peace Prize. I’d be pissed if I were her.
This is hysterical. The SEC just embarrassed itself from a PC standpoint. When did a 30 yard kickoff become the equivalent of a 50 yard punt return for a TD?
I thought women wanted to be treated equal as men. Did she win this award because of her kickoff or because she is a woman? Doesn’t this go against what the culture wants?
Probably every VB player could have kicked 30 yds or better. I guess when you have nothing you look for attention some way.
This comment section shows why this is such a significant accomplishment and long overdue.
Long overdue? She executed a squib kick which was the play call. It’s called trying to save your job instead of asking the punter to kick off. FYI, the punter kicked 7 times so yes, he can do a kickoff.
What are you talking about? As a fellow MU fan, please stop talking. She won an award for one squib kick, that means she took the award from a deserving player. What she did was a part of a publicity stunt, the punter should have been put in to kick off as he’s actually another player on the field in case it is returned, she was told to get off the field as soon as it was kicked-it was not an “accomplishment” or “overdue,” it proved what many have said, women do not belong in football at very high/competitive levels.
That’s the fall-back cliche phrase people use when they have nothing to support their viewpoint. If they want to honor her for being the first woman then can easily create a one-time special award for that purpose. I don’t recall Michael Sam getting an award for being the first openly homosexual person. What awards he got he earned on the field.
