When it comes to the recruiting industry’s consensus top 100 prospects, the Southeastern Conference continues to be dominant.

Within the top 100 of 247Sports Composite rankings, which uses an algorithm to give a consensus average rank of all major recruiting media outlets, SEC programs currently have 30 of the top 100 commitments (44.8 percent of the committed) for the 2016 recruiting cycle.

That’s nearly double of the second-highest conference, the Big Ten, which has 16 thanks to outstanding efforts of Michigan (in contention for the No. 1 class), Ohio State, Penn State and even Maryland.

No other league has a double-digit total at this stage.

CONFERENCE TOP 100 COMMITS % OF TOP 100 COMMITS
SEC 30 44.1
Big Ten 16 23.5
ACC 8 11.8
Pac-12 8 11.8
Big 12 3 4.4
American 2 2.9
Notre Dame 1 1.5

Notes

  • It obviously hasn’t been a banner year (at least by this metric) for the Big 12 in terms of landing elite prospects. Baylor has two top 100 commits and Texas has 1 at this point.
  • Perhaps the Big 12 should consider adding Houston. The Cougars and head coach Tom Herman have two top 100 commits, only one shy of the total of the entire Big 12.
  • All eight of the top 100 commits heading to the ACC are committed to Clemson or Florida State.
