Early in the ’16 recruiting cycle, we’re seeing parity across college football.

Surprise, surprise, right?

In spite of that parity, the SEC continues to be pretty dominant when it comes to recruiting rankings. Let’s see how the conference stacks up in a few categories of interest as of noon ET on Thursday.

FIVE-STAR COMMITMENTS

Conference Commitments
ACC 4
Big 12 1
Big Ten 1
Pac-12 0
SEC 5

*The American Athletic Conference also has one.

The SEC (Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M) and ACC (Florida State, Clemson) are the only two conferences making any real headway here thus far. Of the 28 current five-star recruits, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, just 12 have committed.

FOUR-STAR COMMITMENTS

Conference Commitments
ACC 22
Big 12 10
Big Ten 27
Pac-12 27
SEC 41

The SEC’s recruiting depth shows up here every year. The conference already has secured four times as many four-star commitments as the Big 12 and about twice as many as the ACC.

The Big Ten number is pretty impressive here, as the conference continues to make gains in recruiting. That said, 11 of the conference’s 27 four-star commitments are headed to Ohio State. Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama and Tennessee all have more four-star commitments than the Big Ten’s second-leading Penn State.

The Pac-12 is balanced as well with UCLA, USC and Stanford off to a good start.

QUARTERBACKS

Conference Commitments
ACC 11
Big 12 8
Big Ten 13
Pac-12 8
SEC 8

All quarterbacks are not created equal.

Aside from the fact that quarterback is a very difficult position to predict, there’s a wide range of star ratings represented here. It’s about quality, and the SEC has it in abundance already.

The SEC has claimed three of the top six pro-style quarterbacks in the ’16 class, including No. 1 Jacob Eason (Georgia) and No. 2 Shea Patterson (Ole Miss). The No. 1 dual-threat quarterback, Feleipe Franks, has committed to LSU.

RUNNING BACKS

Conference Commitments
ACC 8
Big 12 4
Big Ten 9
Pac-12 7
SEC 6

There are only two five-star running backs in this class as of now.

The pickings are slimmer than usual in this ’15 class. Ole Miss has landed two of the top 15 running backs, and Georgia has secured a commitment from No. 5-rated B.J. Emmons.

Ohio State has landed the No. 1 and No. 2 running backs in the country. Penn State has a commitment from the No. 3 guy. So the Big Ten is beating out the SEC here.

RECEIVERS

Conference Commitments
ACC 16
Big 12 7
Big Ten 6
Pac-12 8
SEC 12

Four of the top 10 receivers have already committed. DeKaylin Metcalf (Ole Miss), Dee Anderson (LSU) and Stephen Sullivan (LSU) all are headed to the SEC.

There are 54 four-star receivers in the ’15 class, so there’s no excuse for any good power-conference program with a need at the position to come up empty.
