Week 2 is in the record books, but it’s not too late to right some old wrongs. How do we see your team’s season shaping up? Well, a bit more clearly than we did before the season. So after two weeks of football, here’s our best prediction for your team’s final regular season mark.

SEC West

Alabama: 12-0

The Crimson Tide are elite, and we already knew they were elite. Probably the best news of the day for Bama was that Clemson looked very mortal against Texas A&M. Some teams look ahead a week, but Bama can look ahead to the College Football Playoff. They’re that good.

Arkansas: 4-8

The West is so good … and Arkansas just isn’t. If you can’t beat Colorado State, how can you hope to beat LSU or Texas A&M? The offense will make this team interesting, but there are too many holes, especially on defense, for Arkansas to be any kind of a factor in the SEC. Getting bowl eligible is going to be tough.

Auburn: 10-2

It would feel foolish to pick anybody to beat Alabama right now, and Auburn looks like a team that will find another stumble somewhere along the way. But they’re very good, and could be Playoff worthy if things fall the right way.

LSU: 9-3

Much like last season, on any given week, LSU is the kind of team that could, say, beat Auburn. They also could end up being the kind of team that could lose to Louisiana Tech if their defense isn’t sharp. This team has some offensive issues. If those are ironed out, they could be the second-best team in the West.

Mississippi: 6-6

They play in the SEC West and play no defense. Ole Miss should win its nonconference games, beat Arkansas, and can probably name a win from Vandy or maybe South Carolina. But six wins looks like the ceiling right now.

Mississippi State: 9-3

We’re not less bullish on the Bulldogs than we ever were, but the West is so, so good. Watching LSU and A&M show up in a big way in the season’s first two weeks makes us feel like going 5-3 in college football’s toughest division is their most likely outcome.

Texas A&M: 8-4

This was a statement game. Even as a loss, it said that this is an A&M team that can compete with everybody on its schedule. That said, they still go to Alabama and Auburn. It’s a tough, tough schedule.

SEC East

Florida: 7-5

This Gator team has a long way to go. Dan Mullen is still a fine coach, but he’s paying for the sins of recruiting classes gone by, and he’s still trying to find some team chemistry. They didn’t look like the second-best team in the East.

Georgia: 11-1

They play at LSU and home against Auburn. If not for that, we’d call for a 12-0 season. If anybody in the East can play within two scores of UGA, that team becomes our pick for the second-place finisher in the East.

Kentucky: 8-4

Yes, Terry Wilson will occasionally shoot the UK offense in the foot. But he looked like a different player from Week 1 to Week 2, and given how good Benny Snell is, that transformation could launch Kentucky into second in the East. What a difference a week makes.

Missouri: 8-4

The Tigers have showed signs of being able to compete with everybody on their schedule who isn’t Georgia or Alabama. The back end of their schedule is very favorable.

South Carolina: 8-4

South Carolina has a tough schedule, but a bad loss to Georgia aside, looks like they’ll be competitive in most games. A&M and Ole Miss will be challenging interdivision match-ups.

Tennessee: 5-7

Unless Tennessee can beat Florida in Knoxville in two weeks, they’ll be at the bottom of the East. That three-week schedule run of at Georgia, at Auburn, and home against Alabama would finish anybody.

Vanderbilt: 5-7

It could well end up with Vandy and UT playing for a sixth win to end the regular season. At this point, we’d probably pick Vandy in that matchup, but it’s still a long way to that game.
