Look, y’all. All I know right now is Georgia is No. 1 in the SEC and Vanderbilt is No. 14.

I put together these SEC power rankings for everyone, but even I have no clue who 2-13 should be. So feel free to argue with me all you want, but it’s a fool’s errand. No one, and I mean literally no one, has the answers for the SEC power rankings at this moment in time.

This is as chaotic as the league has been in recent memory. We’ll see what happens as the year goes on, but this is where things stand entering Week 4 of the 2023 season:

14. Vanderbilt (2-2 overall, 0-0 in SEC)

This week: 40-37 L at UNLV
Next week: vs. Kentucky
Previous ranking: 14

There’s no two ways to say it – losing at UNLV is not what SEC teams do. If you look at Vanderbilt’s football Twitter (or X or whatever) account during games, it’s very sad. Like, what is this?

You’re reduced to celebrating a second-down stop? Really? Embarrassing. This is a bad team that will most likely go 0-8 in SEC play yet again this year.

13. Texas A&M (2-1, 0-0)

This week: 47-3 W over Louisiana-Monroe
Next week: vs. Auburn
Previous ranking: 12

I’m not sure who else to put here, so the Aggies earn this unfortunate distinction. But hey, A&M fans who are ready for Jimbo Fisher to be fired should forward these rankings to their AD so he can see how far this once-proud program has fallen. Can they win against Auburn this coming weekend? With the injuries and showing so far, I’m not so sure.

12. Mississippi State (2-1, 0-1)

This week: 41-14 L to No. 14 LSU
Next week: at South Carolina
Previous ranking: 7

This looks like a team that’s not ready for SEC play under a first-year head coach. That’s fine, better times are ahead. But not using Will Rogers in the way he has proven he can have success (including against LSU) is bizarre. Zach Arnett’s desire to put his own stamp on this program and move away from the Air Raid is only going to affect this year’s squad in a bad way.

11. Arkansas (2-1, 0-0)

This week: 38-31 L to BYU
Next week: at LSU
Previous ranking: 6

Apparently the defense hasn’t been fixed since last year. That’s going to make things really difficult against LSU and Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers in Death Valley next week. KJ Jefferson needs Rocket Sanders on the field to be successful. This Arkansas team needs something good to happen to it soon.

10. South Carolina (1-2, 0-1)

This week: 24-14 L to No. 1 Georgia
Next week: vs. Mississippi State
Previous ranking: 12

Spencer Rattler still doesn’t have much of an offensive line to throw behind. The Gamecocks need Juice Wells healthy to succeed. But the defense showed signs of life on Saturday afternoon. If the Gamecocks can be competitive in games moving forward, maybe Rattler has enough magic in him to steal a couple of wins here and there.

9. Florida (2-1, 1-0)

This week: 29-16 W over No. 11 Tennessee
Next week: vs. Charlotte
Previous ranking: 13

The Gators absolutely dominated the Vols in a friendly Swamp environment on Saturday night. I think moving them up 4 spots is fair for this week. Yes, this squad still has some major question marks to address. Yes, this team still has tougher SEC games on the schedule. But defending The Swamp is huge. This was a signature win for Billy Napier and the Gators.

8. Tennessee (2-1, 0-1)

This week: 29-16 L to Florida
Next week: vs. UTSA
Previous ranking: 3

I know what y’all are gonna say here – the Vols just lost to Florida, why are they so high? Well, if that game is played on a neutral field tomorrow, I’m still taking the Vols to win. I don’t have any evidence that the Gators can replicate that performance. And while I have certainly soured on Joe Milton as a quarterback, he still has a ton of arm talent. We’ll see what next week holds, but Tennessee is trending in the wrong direction.

7. Kentucky (3-0, 0-0)

This week: 35-3 W over Akron
Next week: at Vanderbilt
Previous ranking: 9

The Wildcats are done with nonconference play until the final week of the season against rival Louisville. That’s honestly about all I can say about this Kentucky team. I haven’t been overly impressed, but there they are at 3-0. The offense has been fine. The defense has been good enough. We’ll see if they can avenge last year’s loss to Vanderbilit next weekend.

6. Alabama (2-1, 0-0)

This week: 17-3 W at USF
Next week: vs. Ole Miss
Previous ranking: 4

The Crimson Tide have a serious QB situation brewing. Who is going to start against Ole Miss next weekend? Jalen Milroe, Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson figure to be in the mix. Figuring out the right guy will be huge for Nick Saban moving forward. If he can’t figure it out? Maybe the questions about the dynasty ending are fair.

5. Auburn (3-0, 0-0)

This week: 45-13 W over Samford
Next week: at Texas A&M
Previous ranking: 8

I’m gonna give the Tigers a boost here, starting a streak of 3-straight Tiger mascots (spoiler alert). Winning at Cal in an ugly game last week was just that – an ugly win in a weird road game for an SEC team. The offense was firing on all cylinders on Saturday. Can they win at Kyle Field next week? I have no idea. But they have a chance.

4. LSU (2-1, 1-0)

This week: 41-14 W over Mississippi State
Next week: vs. Arkansas
Previous ranking: 5

LSU had a minor blip on the radar in Week 1 against Florida State. The Tigers weren’t ready. Now they are. Malik Nabers is back. Jayden Daniels is back. I expect the Tigers to continue to rise up these rankings moving forward. If they don’t in a down year for Alabama, it should be considered a major missed opportunity.

3. Mizzou (3-0, 0-0)

This week: 30-27 W over No. 15 Kansas State
Next week: vs. Memphis
Previous ranking: 10

Yeah, I have Mizzou at No. 3. Call me a homer. I don’t care. Yes, Eli Drinkwitz committed coaching malpractice on the final drive of the game. No, it didn’t matter, as Harrison Mevis booted an SEC-record 61-yard field goal to give the SEC its best win so far in 2023. The Tigers keep finding annoying ways to win instead of annoying ways to lose, and that’s an improvement. Am I having fun watching my alma mater this year? No. Are they getting results? Yes.

2. Ole Miss (3-0, 0-0)

This week: 37-20 W over Georgia Tech
Next week: at Alabama
Previous ranking: 2

A surprising amount of y’all criticized me for having Ole Miss at No. 2 last week. But when pressed, no one could name another school that should be No. 2 currently. So here the Rebels are again. They keep winning. The offense is solid. The defense is perhaps the best we’ve seen in a decade. This is a strong team and deserves this spot until further notice.

1. Georgia (3-0, 1-0)

This week: 24-14 W over South Carolina
Next week: vs. UAB
Previous ranking: 1

No, Georgia didn’t look dominant against the Gamecocks. But the Bulldogs still won. And, to be frank, who am I supposed to move ahead of the Dawgs at this point? I’ll keep them at No. 1 until proven otherwise. That second-half version of Georgia is what I expect to see more of moving forward. Kirby Smart will make sure his team doesn’t perform like it did in the first half of this week’s game again.
