It’s no secret that some SEC programs are going through rebuilding phases, either by way of the after effects of a recent coaching change, or the loss of a slew of players to the NFL. But are these schools really viewed as being significantly down the list of all 130 Football Bowl Subdivision teams? USA TODAY thinks so.

In a recent ranking of every FBS team, the media outlet placed Arkansas at No. 96 and Ole Miss at No. 95 in a surprising poll that also had Vanderbilt at No. 86. Tennessee was listed at No. 61, South Carolina checked in at No. 56, while Kentucky was at No. 52, four spots behind its season-opening opponent, Toledo, which the Wildcats are widely viewed as a double-digit favorite against in Las Vegas sportsbooks.

Missouri and Mississippi State are a bit higher at Nos. 41 and 39, and Auburn sits at No. 21. The predictable top  15 teams from the SEC are Alabama (2), Georgia (3), LSU (6), Texas A&M (12) and Florida (15).

The SEC’s six teams in the top 25 is equaled by the Big Ten.
