A safety out of Cedartown, Georgia became the latest decommitment for the South Carolina recruiting class.

Jayden Johnson is a 3-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, and is the No. 40th athlete in the country, and the No. 46 player in Georgia. Johnson has a reported 19 offers, including Ole Miss and Arkansas.

While he was listed as an athlete, Johnson could’ve played on the defensive side of the ball for the Gamecocks.

Johnson is the fourth recruit to leave the Gamecocks’ recruiting class following wide receivers Rodarius Thomas and Simeon Price, and safety Bryce Steele. That leaves the program with 12 commits in the 2021 class. Johnson’s announcement came less than an hour after Steele backed off his commitment.

When the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder committed to South Carolina, the Gamecocks beat out Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Memphis.

Johnson thanked former coach Will Muschamp, defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, the other commits and the academic staff at South Carolina.
