Shane Beamer is the ultimate coach for South Carolina. He’s the ultimate dancer in terms of recruits.

Anything else one can add to the list? Oh, right, the G.O.A.T. son of college football!

Shane Beamer, the son of legendary Virginia Tech coach, Frank Beamer, recently helped his father celebrate his 76th birthday. And while the 2nd-year coach likely took good ole Dad out for a nice dinner, the Gamecocks provided Frank with a special gift on Saturday night in front of a packed Williams Brice Stadium.

Beamer Ball 2.0!

“I kind of kidded that I’d love to get him a birthday present of a score on special teams and dang if we didn’t do it on the first play of the game,” Beamer said in an interview on SiriusXM Radio. “That was pretty good.”

The Gamecocks opened last week’s 30-24 win over Texas A&M with a 100-yard kickoff return by Xavier Legette. Within the first 7 minutes, South Carolina took a 17-0 lead after intercepting Haynes King and recovering a fumble a drive later.

The term “Beamer Ball” comes from Frank’s time at Virginia Tech where he put an emphasis on special team play. So far, the Gamecocks lead the SEC in field goal percentage (100%) but rank 13th in PATs (91.3%).

The Gamecock are set to take on Missouri this Saturday at home at 4 p.m.
