Shane Beamer produced one of the best all-around seasons in South Carolina history with the Gamecocks on the cusp of the College Football Playoff. Now, he is in the mix for a prestigious Coach of the Year honor.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Beamer was named a finalist for the 2024 Dodd Trophy COTY honor. The rest of the finalists include Oregon’s Dan Lanning, Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman and Army’s Jeff Monken. Three of those finalists are in the 12-team Playoff.
Shane Beamer delivered a breakthrough season for the Gamecocks with 9 wins after going 20-18 across his first 3 seasons with the program. He has already been named the AP’s SEC Coach of the Year for the 5th season in program history with 9 wins while setting a program record with 4 wins over top 25 opponents.
Missing out on the Playoff is certainly a disappointment, but that should not takeaway from what was an otherwise brilliant 2024 campaign for South Carolina. It’s also important to remember that the Gamecocks deployed younger stars at key positions along the way.
Hopefully, this season can serve as a building block for even bigger things to come down the road.
