South Carolina picks up commitment from in-state OL
South Carolina picked up another commitment Friday night. South Pointe High School (Rock Hill) OL Gavin Bennett has pledged to the Gamecocks as a preferred walk-on.
Bennet had interest from Limestone and Wingate, but decided instead to walk on at South Carolina. The programs history of successful former walk-ons helped him make that decision.
“That’s part of the reason why I wanted to go there,” he told The Big Spur. “I feel like I could’ve walked on at other places, but I was talking to some of the guys (Friday) and I was talking to (assistant offensive line coach) Landon (Martin) and they were saying you have an actual opportunity to play.
“Even Muschamp himself, he was a walk-on. A coach like that, he knows what it’s like. He knows the struggle. He knows they work hard. I have a chance to prove myself. I know it’s going to be tough, but I can prevail. I think I can thrive in that environment.”
After a lot of thought and consideration, this long journey has ended and I am announcing my commitment to the University of South Carolina. Thank you @FBCoachWolf @CoachLMartin . Time to get to work! #SpursUp ! pic.twitter.com/QHEDeNDPOy
