Oklahoma is 3-0 and ranked 4th in the country, but it’s been far from an easy season for Lincoln Riley’s team.

The Sooners struggled to beat Tulane in their season opener before eventually holding on for a 40-35 win. After a blowout victory over FCS Western Carolina, they held off upset-minded Nebraska to win 23-16.

They’ve been far from convincing against West Virginia on Saturday, too.

Through 1 half of play, Spencer Rattler has totaled just 71 yards on 7-of-11 passing while throwing a touchdown and an interception. A week earlier against the Cornhuskers, he managed just 214 yards on 24-of-34 passing after throwing a pair of picks against Tulane in Week 1. Oklahoma as a team, meanwhile, has been outgained by the Mountaineers 163-91 in the first half.

Rattler was considered one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy before the season, but his un-Heisman-like performances so far have some Sooner fans wanting to see true freshman Caleb Williams, a Washington, D.C. product considered the top quarterback in the class of 2021.

If Rattler’s to end up back in the Heisman discussion, he has a little work to do.
