Xavier Restrepo is putting together a solid season so far with the Miami Hurricanes, hauling 14 receptions for 263 yards and 4 touchdowns.

But Restrepo spent plenty of time playing with former Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke — who transferred to Wisconsin this offseason — and suffered a season-ending injury during Saturday’s home game against Alabama.

Restrepo met with the media on Wednesday and said that he reached out to his former QB after hearing about the injury.

“Just since we’re not teammates doesn’t make him any less of a brother to me,” Restrepo said. “We’ve grown and lived in college together. I still have love for the guy. I reached out to him and it’s terrible what happened to him. It’s a catastrophe. Again, I just pray for him. I told him to keep God with him and have a speedy recovery. He’s one hell of a player.”

Restrepo and Van Dyke were roommates together for multiple years during their time at Miami.

Restrepo and the Hurricanes will be in action again this weekend against South Florida on the road.
