Alton Robinson will play for the Aggies in 2017, just not in College Station. The former Texas A&M signee has committed to New Mexico State after spending last season in the junior college ranks at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he recorded 67 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and three forced fumbles as a defensive end.

Robinson was a TAMU signee in 2016, but was released from his letter of intent after he was charged with felony burglary for allegedly stealing his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone. The charge has been lowered to a misdemeanor, and New Mexico State coach Doug Martin is ready to give the talented pass-rusher a second chance.

“We presented everything to the administration when we first started recruiting him,” Martin told the Las Cruces Sun-News. “He made a mistake and paid for it and was ready to move on.

“I think the kid was deserving of another chance. His high school coaches and the junior college coaches that we talked to felt like the kid was very deserving. It helped already knowing his junior college coaches and then I felt more comfortable after talking to his family.”
