Jimbo Fisher is out of a job for the rest of the 2023 college football season. With the coaching carousel in motion, the college football world is wondering if Fisher will return to the sidelines in 2024.

Texas A&M insider Billy Liucci of TexAgs broke the news of Fisher’s firing on Sunday. Liucci recently appeared on “Pregaming the SEC” with Jacob Hester and Chris Doering. The former SEC standouts asked Liucci if he expects Fisher to get back on the sideline or take time off.

“Number one, I’ve already heard from people close to him they’re optimistic they might get interest from Mississippi State,” Liucci said. “They might get interest from Michigan State.”

For the most part, Fisher has not been linked to either opening. No one, though, is questioning Liucci’s sources in the Fisher camp after he broke one of the biggest CFB stories of the year.

“Imagine Michigan State not having to pay Mel Tucker’s buyout and then hiring Jimbo,” Liucci said.

Tucker was fired for cause by Michigan State, meaning the school does not have to pay his massive buyout. Tucker has indicated plans to file a wrongful termination suit.

Fisher’s A&M contract does not contain offset or mitigation language, meaning he will be paid over $75 million regardless of what he makes at another school.

“So (Michigan State) could pay him whatever they wanted to,” Liucci said. “They might be not paying Mel Tucker, and paying Jimbo like a couple million a year to coach.”

Liucci does not see Fisher staying away for multiple seasons like some of his peers.

“I think he’ll coach again,” Liucci said of Fisher. “If not this year, next year. He definitely wants to.”
