Jimbo Fisher was not frustrated Saturday night following a 51-10 victory over Mississippi State wondering what might have been for this season. Less than 24 hours later, Fisher was fired by Texas A&M, the school announced, after reports surfaced Sunday morning.

Reflecting on the season, Fisher didn’t appear to sound like a coach who had just coached his last game with the Aggies.

“Not frustrating, disappointing at times,” he said. “We’re 3 or 4 plays from playing in a Playoff spot. But we’ve got to put that past us and we’ve got to grow from it. Learn from it for next year, but we’ve got to finish out this year first. We’re 6-4, need to be the best 7-4 team in the country, the best 8-4 team in the country. That’s our goal, it’s what we can control right now. But I don’t dwell on those things now, I live in the moment and that’s getting ready. We’ve got to be ready to play Abilene Christian next week.”

Earlier in the post-game press conference, Fisher relayed his message to his players about the season’s ups and downs.

“Adversity doesn’t build character until later, it reveals it at the present time,” he said. “Our kids’ character is being revealed that it matters, they care and they come out and played a great game. Hopefully we’ll play another great game next week, and another great game the last week.”
