Jimbo Fisher has been officially fired by Texas A&M, Aggies AD Ross Bjork confirmed in a Sunday statement.

Reports began swirling Sunday morning that Fisher was being fired on the heels of a win over Mississippi State. While his latest game was a positive one, it was hard to mask A&M’s issues with a 6-4 record and 2 games left to play.

Here’s what Bjork had to say about the move:

“After very careful analysis of all the components related to Texas A&M football, I recommended to President Welsh and then Chancellor Sharp that a change in the leadership of the program was necessary in order for Aggie football to reach our full potential and they accepted my decision. We appreciate Coach Fisher’s time here at Texas A&M and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

According to other reports, A&M will move forward under Elijah Robinson as the team’s interim coach. The Aggies are also expected to be on the hook for a buyout worth over $76 million.

Per Bjork’s statement, Texas A&M will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. Sunday evening. Where the Aggies turn next will be interesting to watch, and ESPN’s Pete Thamel has already put out a list of potential candidates to watch moving forward.
