Jimbo Fisher’s buyout is reportedly about to get paid.

Texas A&M insider Billy Liucci reported Sunday that the school is set to part with Fisher “as early as today.” Fisher’s massive buyout of over $76 million was thought by many to keep him as the head coach in College Station for at least another season.

Fisher left Florida State for Texas A&M in late 2017. He signed a 10-year, $75 million fully guaranteed contract to become the Aggies coach for the 2018 season and beyond.

The Aggies had their best year under Fisher in 2020, going 9-1 during the all-SEC season and winning the Orange Bowl to finish No. 4 in the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll. Ahead of the 2021 season, Fisher was extended by Texas A&M.

The new deal, once again fully guaranteed, elevated Fisher’s annual salary. The terms of the extension raised Fisher’s annual salary to $9 million on Jan. 1, 2022, and $9,150,000 on Jan. 1, 2023. It was set to increase by $100,000 each year through 2031.

To satisfy the buyout, the contract states Texas A&M will pay Fisher $76.8 million if he is fired before Dec. 31, 2023. There is no offset language if Fisher gets another coaching job.

Fisher’s record with the Aggies is 45-25 overall and 27-21 in SEC play. Texas A&M is currently 6-4 on the season and 3-3 in SEC play after defeating Mississippi State 51-10 on Saturday.
