Jimbo Fisher didn’t pan for the Aggies’ standards, and it leaves a prime opening in the college football coaching landscape. College football analyst Joe Klatt took a look at the reasons for the Aggies’ move and the opportunity that awaits a new head coach.

“Texas A&M as it relates to their expectations, was falling woefully short,” Klatt said on The Joe Klatt Show on Monday. “So it begs the question, ‘what is Texas A&M?'”

“I think that there are truths on both sides,” Klatt added. “Texas A&M has everything that you need to be successful right there. In that regard, Texas A&M is a very good job. One of the best in college football.”

However, Klatt noted that “it can also be true” to say that “it’s the fourth-best job in its region” compared to Oklahoma, Texas, and LSU. Klatt said “all 3 of those programs have a better foothold on college football and being a name brand than A&M does.”

“If you look at just the conference that they compete in, A&M is probably the seventh-best job in the SEC,” Klatt added. “So that can also be true, which means that it’s going to be difficult at times to break into the upper echelon if the conference just based on who you’re competing against.”
