Former Texas A&M star Mike Evans was suspended one game without pay on Monday for “violations of unsportsmanlike conduct and unnecessary roughness,” the NFL announced.

In another incident involving a former SEC wide receiver, former Georgia star A.J. Green was not suspended for his role in a choke slam of Jacksonville Jaguars’ Jalen Ramsey. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Green is facing the possibility of a fine. The paper reported that coach Marvin Lewis said he’s disappointed in Green’s actions.

“Yes, and he is, too,” Lewis said. “He’s disappointed and he’s apologized for his actions.”

Near the end of the first half and with the Bengals trailing 13-7, Ramsey knocked Green to the ground from the side. Green got up and pulled Ramsey to the turf by the neck from behind, then threw several punches to Ramsey’s head and neck area.

Evans on Sunday blindsided Marshon Lattimore after the Saints cornerback shoved Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston, who was out of the game with an injury but came off the sideline and poked the back of Lattimore’s helmet, which triggered the incident.

NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan said in a letter to Evans that his conduct “did not reflect the high standards of sportsmanship expected of a professional.”

Evans after the game also called it unprofessional.

“I let my emotions get the best of me,” Evans said, according to TampaBay.com. “I thought (Lattimore) was picking a fight with my quarterback. It’s something I shouldn’t have done. It was very childish. I shouldn’t have done that.”

Evans may appeal within three business days.
