Depending on how things go in College Station this fall, the Texas A&M Aggies may have a coaching search on their hands this offseason.

One writer — Matt Mosley of SportsDayDFW.com — believes that the Aggies will try to hire a big-name coach from the ACC if Sumlin gets canned.

While discussing how he believes SMU coach Chad Morris will try to land the A&M job if the Mustangs play well this year, Mosley said he thinks the school will have its sights set a lot higher:

“I think they will make a run at [Clemson’s] Dabo [Swinney] if things go south with Sumlin. I’m not saying he would leave…but they will LOAD UP. After that, it might be the man with the pearly white teeth, Chris Petersen out of Washington.”

Coming off a 2016 national title, it obviously wouldn’t make sense for Swinney to leave Clemson for Texas A&M.

However, Swinney may be able to get a raise from the Tigers if the Aggies offer him a ton of money, so it will be interesting to see how that situation plays out if Sumlin does lose his job.

With a budding rivalry against Alabama and coach Nick Saban, it would be fun to see the two great coaches battle it out in the SEC West every year.
