Tennessee has had an abysmal season, and it’s starting to look like it will get even worse.

The Volunteers fell to 3-4 on the season with a 45-7 loss to Alabama. Tennessee is currently on a three-game losing streak in the SEC that has seen the Vols get outscored 101-16. The offense has not scored a touchdown in that span while the defense has had its own set of issues.

Tennessee has five games remaining on the season, starting with a trip to Kentucky this weekend, and it is time to question if the Vols will win again this season. In addition to a game against the Wildcats, the Vols will face off against Southern Miss, Missouri, LSU, and Vanderbilt.

According to one projection, the Vols are favored in just one remaining game this season. Even that game features a razor-thin margin against Vanderbilt. Here is the projection shared by @gyratestats on Twitter:

The biggest takeaway is that Southern Miss is now a 12-point favorite over the Vols in Knoxville.

A further look at the numbers illustrates that this current Tennessee team could be one of the worst of the past 50 years:

There is still time for Tennessee to turn things around and get a couple of wins. Unfortunately for Vols fans, that sounds more like a dream than a reality. On the flip side, there is still time for this team to cement its spot in Tennessee infamy as one of the worst teams on record.

It is likely only a matter of time until head coach Butch Jones is fired, but failing to become bowl eligible would simply be more salt in the wound for Vols fans.
