Just when it looked like things couldn’t get much worse for the Tennessee Volunteers, star RB John Kelly and LB Will Ignont were cited for marijuana possession on Tuesday night.

Now, the two players have been disciplined ahead of Saturday’s game at Kentucky.

According to a statement released by coach Butch Jones via email, Kelly and Ignont will be suspended for the game against the Wildcats.

“John Kelly and Will Ignont will be suspended for the Kentucky game as a result of the incident on Tuesday night,” Jones said in the statement. “Members of our football team have a responsibility to represent the University of Tennessee in a first-class manner. I met with John and Will and they understand their actions were unacceptable.”

Obviously, losing Kelly is a huge hit to the Tennessee offense, which hasn’t scored a touchdown in 14 quarters.

That puts Jones in a tough place, too, as the embattled coach can’t afford another loss in SEC play. The Vols are 0-4 in the conference currently, so another loss — especially to Kentucky — will only increase the heat on Jones.
