Once Chris Rumph realized the staff Jeremy Pruitt was assembling in Knoxville, it didn’t take the assistant coach long to jump at the chance to head to Rocky Top.

After playing his college football at South Carolina, Rumph has gone on to establish an outstanding coaching resume, working at Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Texas and Memphis prior to landing in Knoxville.

Tennessee’s co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach explained his decision to jump at the chance to coach for the Volunteers, instead of staying in Gainesville to coach for Dan Mullen’s Florida staff, during his recent media availability with WATE Sports Director Marshall Hughes of Knoxville.

“It’s all about the people, and it’s nothing against Dan Mullen. I’ve worked with Coach Pruitt, Coach Sherrer, Tyson (Helton), Tracy Rocker,” Rumph said.

Tennessee fans will love to hear Rumph’s reaction to seeing those names join Pruitt’s first staff.

“Man, I gotta get on, I gotta get on. This is what I want, this is the stuff that I want,” he said.
