Cincinnati running back Ralph David Abernathy IV will transfer to Tennessee, his father told 247Sports.com on Saturday. Abernathy will join the Vols as a fifth-year senior.

The former three-star prospect signed with Cincinnati while head coach Butch Jones was still with the program. He has seen solid playing time in the Bearcats offense since his sophomore season after serving as a return specialist as a true freshman in 2011.

Abernathy missed most of his true senior season, but is eligible to redshirt and participate full-time for Tennessee once he enrolls. In four seasons, Abernathy has 917 rushing yards, 540 receiving yards, 2,186 return yards and 13 touchdowns.

The 5-foot-7, 161-pound running back was in attendance for Tennessee’s 50-16 win over Kentucky on Saturday and has been cleared by the NCAA to transfer to UT and practice with the football program. Abernathy’s younger brother, Micah Abernathy, is a four-star 2015 cornerback prospect that is committed to Tennessee.
