The first time Peyton Manning hit the free agent market, nearly every NFL franchise without a starting quarterback got involved in recruiting the former Indianapolis star. Of course, Manning ultimately made a great decision and chose to sign with Denver.

That choice led to multiple Super Bowl appearances and a title in his final appearance on the football field. Now that Manning is a free agent once again, he’s just as sought after as before, although for an entirely different job opportunity this time around.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, both ESPN and FOX are very eager to give Manning his first shot at joining the NFL broadcast booth. Of the two networks, ESPN is reportedly more aggressive in its pursuit of the former Tennessee QB.

With Jon Gruden no longer calling Monday Night Football games, ESPN is believed to be interested in replacing the Raiders coach in the booth with Manning.

A source of Marchand’s indicates, “ESPN is willing to ‘back up the truck’ for Manning,” to get him to join the network. Meanwhile, with FOX taking over the rights to Thursday Night Football, the network is interested in Manning headlining the coverage of the new broadcast team on that network.

Given these opportunities, this could be an intriguing offseason for Manning. Will he take the money and join TV/media or will he hold out for a job in an NFL front office? Considering the money he made as a player and paid endorser, it’s unlikely money will motivate his next decision. Expect the soon-to-be Hall of Famer to carefully evaluate his next move, as his history suggests he’ll break down every possible detail of every opportunity available to him at this time.
