Former Tennessee cornerback Jordan Matthews entered the transfer portal on Dec. 10 and has already found a landing spot. The DB announced on Wednesday night that he will be moving to Nashville, committing to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Matthews played sparingly for Tennessee in 2024, collecting 3 tackles and 2 pass deflections. Now, the Baton Rouge native will try his luck at a new SEC school.

“Let’s work!” said Matthews in his official announcement.

Matthews originally starred for Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge. He was rated as a 4-star prospect and the 247Sports Composite ranking had Matthews as the No. 18 CB and the No. 7 player out of Louisiana in the 2023 class. Tennessee beat out Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and others for Matthews’ services.

Matthews was never able to carve out a regular role on a stout Tennessee defense, however, finishing with just 4 tackles in parts of 2 seasons. He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining with the Commodores.

So far, the Commodores have done a solid job adding talent in this transfer portal cycle. Matthews is the 7th player to sign on with the Commodores, joining defensive lineman Aaron Bryant and edge Keanu Koht, among others. Meanwhile, the team has seen 15 players leave via the portal.

Vanderbilt impressed in 2024, ending the regular season with a 6-6 record and securing wins over Alabama and Auburn. Now, the team will prepare to face Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 27.
