Grant Williams, a former Boston Celtic turned Dallas Maverick this offseason, joined Paul Finebaum Monday afternoon to discuss his past at Tennessee and its impact on his current career in the NBA.

Williams was a star for Tennessee from 2016-2019, teaming up with Admiral Schofield and Jordan Bone for the Vols’ iconic 2019 squad that reached the Sweet Sixteen and was ranked No. 1 for 4 weeks of the regular season.

Individually, Williams was one of the best players in the country, especially later in his collegiate career. He was named the SEC Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019, leading into his first-round selection by the Celtics in 2019.

Alongside Schofield, Williams built the framework for what Tennessee basketball has become across the past few seasons: One of the top programs in the SEC and a constant presence inside the Ap Top 25 during the regular season.

Williams delved into what he called “The Foundation Class” with Finebaum, insisting the 2019 squad “set the example for the next generation, about hard work, understanding the values of being a Tennessee basketball player.”

Check out Williams’ full thoughts with Finebaum below:

Williams has been a solid player in the NBA so far, too. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Celtics last season as part of a squad that reached the Eastern Conference Finals but fell to the Miami Heat.

As mentioned, Williams was traded to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a package that sent Boston a pair of 2nd round picks.
