Jarrett Guarantano didn’t start the game against South Carolina Saturday night, but he played a key part.

Guarantano came off the bench and hit 11-of-19 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns in the Vols 41-21 win over South Carolina. However, Guarantano injured his hand during the game.

Following the game, Jeremy Pruitt announced that his quarterback would have surgery for a broken bone. On Sunday night, Pruitt joined WNML Knoxville to further update Guarantano’s status following surgery.

“He had surgery on his hand. He had a screw put in there. He will be ready this week,” Pruitt told the radio station.

Tennessee plays UAB this week, and it opened as a two-touchdown favorite.

Brian Maurer’s status is currently unknown, but it appears that Guarantano will be ready to play. JT Shrout also played well, hitting 7-of-11 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown against the Gamecocks.

Tennessee kicks off against UAB Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
