If you haven’t heard the news, Tennessee defensive line coach Tracy Rocker has left Rocky Top for South Carolina. The news was first reported on Monday morning by 247Sports.

Less than an hour later, Tennessee has reportedly found its next defensive line coach as Colorado coach Jimmy Brumbaugh has been hired by Prutt according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

It should be noted that Rocker’s contract at Tennessee expired on Jan. 31, 2020. Considering how quickly Pruitt made the decision to hire away Brumbaugh from Colorado, it’s safe to assume Rocker was likely not going to be Tennessee’s defensive line coach next season.

Brumbaugh served two seasons as Colorado’s defensive line coach working under former Georgia defensive line coach, Mel Tucker. Tucker runs a similar defense as Pruitt, as the two coaches both worked under Nick Saban and Kirby Smart during their coaching careers.

Before landing at Colorado, Brumbaugh was co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Maryland for two seasons. The Florida native also has SEC experience as he was Kentucky’s defensive line coach from 2013 until 2016, where he coached and developed Bud Dupree and Za’Darius Smith into NFL Draft selections during his time in Lexington. He also has history coaching at the junior college level as he served one season as defensive line coach at East Mississippi Community College of “Last Chance U” fame.

Brumbaugh played on the defensive line at Auburn from 1995 until 1999. During his playing career at Auburn, he had 291 tackles and 15 quarterback sacks and was named second-team All-SEC as a sophomore in 1996 and first-team All-SEC accolades in 1997.
