Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers had an absolute blast in ‘The Third Saturday in October’ as they knocked off the Alabama Crimson Tide 24-17.

It was an old-school style of game, where points were coming at a premium. While Heupel was obviously proud of his team for the win, he also wanted to give a major shoutout to the crowd at Neyland Stadium.

“The Third Saturday in October is college football at its finest,” Heupel told reporters after the game. “Elite performance by our crowd tonight. They hung in there with us.”

Tennessee got a huge performance from running back Dylan Sampson, who finished the game with 26 carries for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had 18 of those carries for 104 yards in the second half, and was the guy the Volunteers leaned on to get the win.

The defense was equally as impressive, holding a dynamic Alabama offense to only 17 points. The defense has been the strength for Tennessee this year, as the Volunteers haven’t given up more than 19 points in a game this season.

The crowd and the team will have a bye next week to catch their breath and get some much needed rest before hosting Kentucky on November 2. The Playoff is still very much in play for the Vols this year.
