Rick Barnes has his new point guard of the future.

That’s because Kennedy Chandler, the 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard from Memphis, Tenn., just announced his commitment to Tennessee over Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky and Memphis.

Chandler made his decision during a live appearance on SportsCenter’s Instagram account.

Why was Tennessee the pick?

“Coach Rick Barnes. They have recruited me since they knew who I was,” Chandler said. “When I visited campus, it felt like home.”

“He’s a great coach, he is going to be a Hall of Fame coach one day,” Chandler added when further discussing Barnes.

The five-star point guard also credited assistant coach Kim English for recruiting him to Tennessee.

The Sunrise Christian standout is rated as a five-star prospect, the nation’s No. 1 point guard and the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Chandler has also been honored as Mr. Basketball in the state of Tennessee twice.

Chandler is the first 2021 prospect to commit to Tennessee. If you were unaware, the Vols signed the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation in the 2020 recruiting cycle after signing a pair of five-star prospects.
