Kirk Herbstreit made a prediction that may surprise some people during his “Herbstreit & Fitzsimmons” podcast earlier this week.

The ESPN college football analyst is calling an upset — Tennessee over No. 17 West Virginia.

“Poor old Tennessee, they’ve got a new coach, nobody knows any of their players, and they don’t have a chance. Be careful, Tennessee sneaking around. I think Tennessee upsets West Virginia in Week 1,” Herbstreit said on the podcast. “Don’t be shocked if in the third quarter you’re watching that game and ‘ol Tennessee is not only within striking distance, they may have the lead. I think they get it done for Jeremy Pruitt in Week 1.”

Earlier in the week, Herbstreit had told Peter Burns on “SEC This Morning” on SiriusXM Radio that he thought Tennessee would give West Virginia a close game. He then doubled down on his prediction when he said the Vols will win on his podcast released on Wednesday.

Tennessee is playing its first game of the Pruitt era and looking to bounce back from an abysmal season under Butch Jones last year.

The Vols went 4-8 in 2017, losing all eight of their games against SEC opponents. Jones was fired during the season.

Tennessee and West Virginia kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
