Tony Romo made headlines recently when CBS made him the highest-paid sports TV analyst in history making $17 million annually. However, that could be short lived.

Per a report by Front Office Sports, ESPN is preparing to offer Peyton Manning $18 to $20 million per year to serve as the lead analyst for “Monday Night Football.”

Manning has met with ESPN executives over the last few days, per the report. Manning currently hosts the 30-episode “Peyton’s Places” on ESPN+; so, the network is very familiar with him and has an existing relationship with him.

Last year’s Monday Night Football TV team consisted of Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland, but most thought that duo took a back seat to others on competing networks. Adding Manning as the lead analyst would be a shot in the arm.

A report surfaced earlier Thursday that ESPN was trying to acquire Al Michaels in order to pair him with Manning in the booth. That would be a blockbuster duo.

This marks the third time that ESPN has pursued Manning for a TV analyst role. Will the third time be a charm?
