Tennessee’s defense will have to deal with a major loss to its defense Saturday against Florida — and possibly longer.

According to a report from VolQuest.com, starting safety Todd Kelly Jr. did not travel with the team to Gainesville, Florida, for its matchup against the Gators because of an ongoing knee problem. Sources told VolQuest.com that there is no timetable for when Kelly will return and is out indefinitely.

VolQuest.com reports that Kelly and his family will meet with trainers and doctors to discuss the best course of action for his lingering knee issues.

Kelly, a senior, played nearly every snap last season and finished with 71 tackles. He has appeared in 40 games for the Volunteers during his career, collecting 153 total tackles.

His injury issues have prevented him from contributing much this season, as he has rarely played. In his place, Nigel Warrior and Micah Abernathy have started at the two safety spots.

Saturday’s game between the Volunteers and Gators is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and will be nationally televised by CBS.
