Nation's No. 5 DT Greg Emerson commits to Tennessee
It’s safe to say Butch Jones and Tennessee will have a happy Fourth of July.
According to college football insider Bruce Feldman, the nation’s No. 5 defensive tackle Greg Emerson committed to the Volunteers. Emerson had offers from every major program around the country, but he decided to stay in state with the Volunteers. He was Tennessee’s biggest uncommitted target left on the board and the state’s top defensive player.

The Jackson, Tennessee, native is rated as the nation’s No. 5 defensive tackle and the state’s No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
He became Tennessee’s 16th commitment for the class of 2018. That also gives Tennessee six of the top nine players from the state already committed. It’s only July 3.
Emerson was injured at The Opening on Sunday, but he updated his status on Monday to say he’ll be back and running in 4-6 weeks. That’s huge news for Emerson, who should have a big senior season.
