Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers are a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament (and should have been a No. 2 seed). They’ll take on No. 14 seed Longwood in Round 1.

After the season, though, Barnes will have a key assistant to replace, as East Carolina is expected to hire someone away from the Vols’ staff.

Per Jeff Goodman of Stadium, ECU is looking to hire Mike Schwartz, who has been on Rocky Top since 2015, when Barnes was hired at Tennessee:

Schwartz is credited with building the Vols’ defense into one of the best units in the entire country. In KenPom’s ratings, the Vols have the No. 3 defense in the nation this year.

Schwartz is expected to replace Joe Dooley, who spent 4 years as the Pirates’ head coach.
