Speculation regarding UCLA’s interest in Rick Barnes spread like wildfire on Sunday following the initial report from Evan Daniels of 247Sports and it quickly turned out to be far more than just another coaching rumor.

While many of these moves are made without quickly before the media ever catches wind of them, Tennessee and UCLA are now caught in the middle of a very public battle for a coach that was just honored as National Coach of the Year by multiple outlets.

The latest news regarding Barnes comes from Knoxville-based WBIR, which is reporting that Tennessee has extended an offer to Barnes and that the coach is expected to reach a decision at some point on Monday. UCLA reportedly first contacted Barnes over the weekend. Tennessee AD Phillip Fulmer was out of town at the women’s Final Four, interviewing candidates to be the next head coach of the Lady Vols.

UCLA has reportedly offered Barnes $5 million annually to coach the Bruins, he made just over $3 million last season coaching for Tennessee.

Russell Bivens of WBIR is also reporting that Arkansas wanted to hire Barnes but the coach did not have interest in leaving Tennessee for another SEC job.
