Tennessee landed its seventh commitment of the 2022 class when the Vols reached into Ocoee, Florida (Ocoee) to receive a commitment from Jordan Phillips.

He announced his commitment on Thursday in an article published by USA Today. He recently visited Knoxville, and chose the Vols over Florida, Georgia, Maryland and Georgia Tech, along with scholarship offers from more than 20 other schools.

“And I want to thank my mom. She’s done so much for me and she’s been important to me and my recruiting process. My mom is the most important person in my life. And my college journey is going to make me back to her roots. I’m born and raised in Florida. But my mom, well, she’s a Tennessee girl. And now I’m a Tennessee Vol.”

Phillips is a 3-star defensive lineman rated the No. 95 defensive lineman in the class by the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 89 player in the state of Florida. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Phillips gave Tennessee its seventh commitment for the 2022 class and its second from a projected defensive lineman, joining Venson Sneed of nearby Winter Park (Florida) High School.

“The whole atmosphere was big for me. The guys there are going to work and make that sacrifice every day,” he wrote. “I’m one of those guys who will sacrifice everything for my goals. So, I fit in. The players are really hard working and driven. When I walked in the weight room, it was just straight up work. Coach Rodney Garner, my position coach, is a cool guy. Since the day I met him, he’s been real with me. That had a major influence on my decision.”
