Tennessee freshman linebacker JJ Peterson won’t be with the Vols for Saturday’s season opener, but he’ll reportedly be arriving on campus shortly after.

According to 247sports, Peterson has been cleared by the NCAA and will arrive at Tennessee on Sunday. This report cites Rush Propst, who was Peterson’s coach at Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Ga.

Peterson hadn’t yet joined the Vols because he had to complete some academic work before officially enrolling at Tennessee. Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt didn’t have an update on the situation during the SEC Coaches’ Teleconference on Wednesday, but obviously things moved in the right direction since then.

Peterson was a 4-star recruit in the 2018 class, ranking No. 3 among outside linebackers in the 247sports composite rankings, as well as No. 7 among recruits from Georgia.

Tennessee opens its season, without Peterson, on Saturday when it plays West Virginia at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte at 3:30 p.m. ET.
