Tennessee will honor legendary basketball coach Pat Summitt at this Saturday’s game against UConn.

Summitt was the head coach of the Lady Vols’ basketball team from 1974 to 2012 and led Tennessee to 8 National Championships. She retired in 2012 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and died a few years later in 2016.

Tennessee will honor her legacy and raise money for Alzheimer’s research during its game Saturday, selling a commemorative cup.

“Vol fans, help us continue to honor the legacy of the legendary Pat Summitt,” Josh Heupel said. “At our game on Nov. 4 against UConn, a special Pat Summitt commemorative cup will be available at Neyland Stadium. A portion of the sales from each cup will support Alzheimer’s research at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Continue the fight Pat Summitt started against Alzheimer’s and purchase this special commemorative cup on Nov. 4.”

The game against UConn is a fitting time to honor Summitt, as she was known for her intense rivalry with the Huskies and their women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma. Since Summitt’s passing, Auriemma has voiced his respect for the legendary head coach.

The cups will be sold all across Neyland Stadium Saturday, with $1 of each sale going to Alzheimer’s research.
