The Tennessee Volunteers face the tough task of replacing longtime QB Joshua Dobbs heading into the 2017 season.

Replacing a talented dual-threat quarterback like Dobbs is never easy, but it’s spring and hope is springing eternal in Knoxville.

On Tuesday, Volunteer fans got their first look at redshirt freshman QB Jarrett Guarantano, who will be in the mix to start under center for Tennessee this fall.

In the above video, Guarantano shows off a strong arm, hitting a receiver along the sideline with a deep pass.

Though there weren’t any defenders on the field for the play, it was still a nice toss from the former 4-star recruit.

For now, Tennessee fans will have to settle for this as the team works its way toward spring scrimmages. When he faces an actual pass rush, it’ll be interesting to see how poised he is while waiting for deep routes to develop.

Guarantano is expected to compete with Quinten Dormady for the starting job this fall.
