If you ask Ugo Amadi, Kyle Phillips will commit to LSU during Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl. At least, that ‘s what he claimed Saturday after announcing his commitment date via Twitter.

Ugo committed to LSU this afternoon. If he’s telling the truth, the Vols may have missed out on their top remaining in-state target.

Phillips ranks as a four-star and is the No. 110 overall player and No. 8 strong-side defensive end of the 2015 class. If he chooses Tennessee, the Nashville native would join a Vols defensive line that already includes All-SEC freshman Derek Barnett and will add two of the nation’s top incoming defensive tackles in Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle.

McKenzie, who will also participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, has spent the week recruiting the prized defensive end and seems confident he will choose Tennessee.

So should Vols fans believe their five-star defensive tackle that could spend the next 3-4 years lining up alongside Phillips, or the crosstown rival that spurned his state’s biggest program? Perhaps Amadi is claiming to know more than he does, because his announcement is a potential spoiler for Phillips, if his promise is correct.

Phillips told 247Sports that he will continue to weigh his decision this week when his mother, TSU athletic director Teresa Phillips, arrives in San Antonio.

“Actually I don’t know,” Phillips said when asked if he knows who he’ll pick. “My mom is coming up this week and sometime this week before Saturday, we’ll make a decision.”

But he also claimed that his mother is leaning toward LSU, despite the distance from Nashville.

“I feel like she might like LSU the best but it’s further away,” he said. “I’m not sure. That might be her favorite though.”

Either way, Phillips’ announcement will be a focal point for Tennessee and LSU fans during Saturday’s game.
