Quinn Ewers, who is set to lead his Texas Longhorns against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl, told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that he will enter the NFL Draft following the conclusion of Texas’s season.
This is far from a surprising development, but it does officially put to rest any rumors that Ewers would enter the transfer portal following the end of this season. Of course, many Texas fans are eager to see former 5-star QB Arch Manning hit the field next season.
Ewers has been great for Texas this season, but there are reasons he wasn’t considered a surefire inclusion in the upcoming draft. For one, that’s just the reality of NIL these days – more money in college keeps fringe NFL players in college longer.
And Ewers – despite being an excellent college quarterback – is considered by many to be a fringe NFL prospect. His arm talent is certainly there – he’s thrown for 29 touchdowns and counting with a solid 66% completion percentage against SEC competition – but whether he has the poise and decision-making to be an NFL quarterback is another issue.
But in what is expected to be a disappointing QB draft class, he’ll be looking to prove himself tonight against a great Ohio State defense.
