Vanderbilt finalizes deal with its next head coach
The Vanderbilt Commodores are on the hunt for a new coach, but it seems that search is drawing to a close.
It was reported earlier on Monday morning that Notre Dame DC Clark Lea was the top candidate, and it seems he’ll be the next leader of the Commodores.
On Monday night, Yahoo’s Pete Thamel tweeted out that the Commodores had finalized a deal with Lea:

Vanderbilt AD Candice Storey Lee tweeted out a GIF of an anchor falling, which seems to indicate that the Commodores do indeed have a new coach:

Lea was born in Nashville and attended Vanderbilt. He has been with the Fighting Irish since 2017 and has been their defensive coordinator since 2018.
Who cares?
Come on now, be civil. The entire SEC East wants to keep Vandy forever. Well, Tennessee has had some doubts until this past week.
I continually wonder at those who complain about Vandy, they are the official SEC practice dummy, why on earth would you want them to change?
True thank goodness for vandy. If it was any other team my Aggs would have a second loss this season. Week one we had 5 turnovers that game
This IS considered a loss for Texas A&M!
Na truelefty, still a win. Just had to get all the rust off from not playing spring ball.
Interesting hire. Hometown guy.
A moment of silence for this man’s career.
He picked a steep mountain to climb.
Wait, a man? They hired a man to coach their team?
Huh. Weird.
Guess all that Historic Girl Power stuff really WAS just a publicity stunt.
Woah, that’s a bada55 gif!
I hope Vandy will support him with improved facilities and staff. Otherwise, it is just another insanity drill.
I certainly wouldn’t send my kid to Vanderbilt. They’ve had one successful coach in ? years. Only one coach had more than 1 .500 season. Going back to the 60s (I quit looking). James Franklin. Difference between him and all those coaches (except for one)?
He was an offensive co-ordinator. The rest were DCs (except one).
I get the home-town connection, but this doesn’t really square with their stated “we need to fix our offense” goal – unless Lea shared something with them that he knows but isn’t currently using. Maybe he has an in with an OC known for building from the ground up?
It’s the free soup sign and when they opened the door he was the only one there that was “decent”? They couldn’t get the applicant they wanted.
