Vanderbilt’s connection to the NBA’s G League appears to be growing as the Commodores are expected to hire Nicki Gross, a former NBA G League assistant.

If you were unaware, Vanderbilt AD Malcolm Turner formerly ran the G League and head coach Jerry Stackhouse coached the Toronto G League team. Gross coached with Stackhouse in the G League but was most recently an assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies.

News of Gross’ hire in Nashville was first reported by David Sisk of VandySports and is also being reported by Adam Sparks of the Tennessean. Gross is expected to fill one of the three primary assistant roles on Stackhouse’s first Vanderbilt staff.

It has already been reported that Stackhouse is expected to hire David Grace as his associate head coach, leaving one position remaining if Gross is hired to be the second assistant in Nashville.
