Vanderbilt pledges proceeds from Hawaii game will go to Maui Strong fund
Vanderbilt’s season opening game vs. Hawaii has taken on an even deeper meaning off the field in the wake of the wildfires in Maui.
The Aug. 8 tragedy has resulted in at least 106 reported deaths, as the exact cause is still being determined. However, high winds and dry weather played a factor in the wildfires.
In response, Vanderbilt has decided to donate a portion of ticket sales for the contest vs. the Rainbow Warriors to the Maui Strong Fund, which is organized through the Hawai’i Community Foundation.
Support for Maui Strong.
In support of recovery efforts following the devastating wildfires on Maui, a portion of proceeds from each ticket sold to the Commodores’ season-opening football game against Hawai’i will be donated to Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund.

Per the organization’s website: “The Maui Strong Fund is providing financial resources that can be deployed quickly, with a focus on rapid response and recovery for the devastating wildfires on Maui.”
Vanderbilt will host Hawaii on Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET and the contest will be televised on the SEC Network. In the other lone matchup between the programs, Vanderbilt defeated Hawaii 63-10 in Honolulu last season.
